Day 1

ARRIVE ROME (2 nights)

Welcome to Rome, the Eternal City! After check-in the remainder of the day is at leisure to relax or explore. This evening, enjoy a Welcome Drink with your Tour Director and fellow travelling companions.

Day 2

ROME SIGHTSEEING AND AT LEISURE

This morning your expert guided sightseeing tour takes you into St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican to see the famous Pietà – amongst other great works. Then cross the Tiber to explore ancient Rome with views of the Forum and visit the mighty Colosseum where gladiatorial combat took place. Finally enjoy views over the Circus Maximus where chariot races were held in Roman times. Later, time to relax or explore further.

Day 3

ROME SIGHTSEEING - VENICE

An early start today so that you can enjoy a highlight guided visit to the Sistine Chapel to admire the painted ceiling by Michelangelo. Later head north from Rome following the valley of the River Tiber. Then travel through Umbria and see the impressive hilltop towns of Orte and Orvieto, once used as a stronghold by the popes, before entering into Tuscany. Here see the Chianti vineyards and the terraced olive groves before crossing over the forested Apennine hills. Bypass Bologna and reach the flat Veneto plains before arriving at the hotel on the Grand Canal where you will dine tonight.

Day 4

VENICE SIGHTSEEING - LAKE GARDA

This morning the sights and sounds of this floating city on an included canal cruise by private motor launch to St. Mark's Square to view the Bridge of Sighs and Doge’s Palace. Next visit a glass-blowing workshop before time on your own to explore this unique city. Then drive across the plains of Veneto past Verona towards the Italian Lake District for the night.

Day 5

LAKE GARDA - FLORENCE

Today enjoy beautiful views of Lake Garda before departing for Florence. The medieval and Renaissance past of this culturally rich city is revealed to you on an expert guided walking tour. See the Piazza Signoria - the political centre of the 15th century city - with its impressive sculptures and imposing palazzos, the multi-coloured marbled Duomo and the famous Baptistery with bronze doors designed by the Renaissance artist Ghiberti. You will also walk to see the Ponte Vecchio which bridges the River Arno. Later, time to explore, relax or shop for high quality leather goods and 18-carat gold .

Day 6

FLORENCE - ROME

This morning drive southwards passing the Chianti vineyards and the olive groves which cover the rolling hills of Tuscany. This unique landscape has been an inspiration to artists throughout the centuries and still is today. Then travel through the region of Umbria with bright golden fields of sunflowers and shady valleys before reaching the valley of the River Tiber which leads you back to the Eternal City of Rome. Here time to relax a little before joining your Tour Director and new-found friends for a Farewell Dinner with wine in a local restaurant.

Day 7

DEPART ROME

This morning after breakfast say ‘arrivederci Roma’ as you bid farewell to your travelling companions. Return home with wonderful and enduring memories of Italy. Transfers are available. Conditions apply.

OSTIA ANTICA

Drive to the Mediterranean coast and visit the excavations of Ancient Ostia, the former harbour of These ruins offer perhaps a more complete picture of Roman urban life than either Rome or Pompeii. See the remains of the baths, theatre, apartment houses, drinking room, mosaics and wall paintings at this beautiful site, mirrored by Cypress trees and Umbrella pines.
