Day 2

ROME SIGHTSEEING

Your sightseeing tour with an expert Local Guide starts with a visit to St. Peter's Basilica, one of the holiest sites in the world and a monument to artistic genius. Across the Tiber in ancient Rome, see the Forum and then visit a local attraction – 3D Rewind for an included visit. At this attraction you will experience an exhilarating 3 dimensional journey through the history of imperial Rome. Thanks to a series of amazing special effects, you’ll find yourself in the underground chambers of the Colosseum back in 310 AD, the perfect introduction to your included visit of the Colosseum. The rest of the day will be yours to explore this fascinating city.

Day 3

ROME - SORRENTO (2 NIGHTS)

Visit the Commonwealth Cemetery near the Abbey in Monte Cassino, where a fierce battle took place in May 1944. Continue south through the fertile Campania region to the Bay of Naples. Arrive later in Sorrento and join your companions this evening for a Be My Guest dinner of delicious local .

Day 4

SORRENTO - POMPEII EXCURSION

Experience a guided walking tour of Pompeii with your expert Local Guide and hear the fascinating story of a city buried beneath a layer of volcanic ash when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. Later in Sorrento, visit a gelateria for a gelato making demonstration and taste a variety of delicious falvors!

Day 5

SORRENTO - GIARDINI NAXOS (2 NIGHTS)

Drive south via Salerno and continue through the Calabria region. Take the ferry across the Straits of Messina. Follow the coast of the Ionian Sea to Giardini Naxos and dine tonight at your hotel.

Day 6

GIARDINI NAXOS - EXCURSION TO TAORMINA

This morning an expert Local Guide will take you to visit Taormina including the Greek theatre. This town was founded in 400BC and is located on the slopes of Mount Tauro with magnificent views across the bay. You will have free time to enjoy the terraced gardens and take a stroll in the town. This afternoon enjoy the swimming pool and facilities at the hotel. Or perhaps venture down to the lovely beach located nearby. Your Travel Director will make suggestions for dinner this evening.

Day 7

GIARDINI NAXOS - ENNA - AGRIGENTO (2 NIGHTS)

Cross the island and stop at Enna for panoramic views across the fortress town and surrounding countryside. Arrive later in Agrigento, Sicily’s oldest tourist site. Agrigento was founded by the Greeks on a plateau overlooking the sea and became a wealthy and famous colony.

ARRIVE PARIS (2 nights)

Welcome to Paris, the elegant capital of France! After check-in you are free to explore this beautiful city or simply relax. Later, enjoy a Welcome Drink with your Tour Director and meet your fellow travellers.

Day 2

PARIS SIGHTSEEING AND AT LEISURE

Today's sightseeing tour with a local expert guide includes the ascent of the Eiffel Tower to its second level for wonderful views over the city. Other highlights include views of Notre Dame Cathedral, the Arc de Triomphe, Place de la Concorde and the Champs Élysées before you enjoy a visit of Les Invalides with its golden dome. As part of the Army Museum, its most important relic is the tomb of France's most influential ruler, Napoleon Bonaparte. For the rest of the day you may choose to stroll through the Luxembourg gardens, visit the Palace of Versailles or relax over a 'café au lait.'

Day 3

PARIS - LOIRE VALLEY CHATEAUX - TOURS

First drive to Chartres – famous for its mighty Cathedral with striking blue stained glass windows. Built on a ley line, this spot has always been said to have mystical power! Then down to the valley of the quiet River Loire with its many beautiful villages and resplendent castles, home to French royalty over the centuries. Stop at Chambord to see the impressive château, and then visit fairytale Chenonceau, straddling the River Cher. Then continue to your hotel and enjoy a special 'Be My Guest' dinner of mouth-watering specialities in a local restaurant.

Day 4

TOURS - BOURGES - LYON

Today’s journey takes you through the very centre of France. First stop in Bourges to see the Palais Jacques Coeur, the Cathedral of St. Stephen and the delightful archbishop’s gardens. Then into the very centre of the ‘hexagon’, as the French often call their homeland, to stop at the village of St. Amand Montrond. Continue via the volcanic hills around Clermont Ferrand and on to Lyon – a gourmet paradise on the Rhône and Saône Rivers. A walking tour of the old city which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site reveals its rich and cultural past. It is the largest Renaissance district in France with its narrow streets, inner courtyards and ‘traboules’. Drive up the Fourvière hill to appreciate awe inspiring views over the city before continuing on to your hotel for dinner.

Day 5

LYON - CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE - AVIGNON - NICE (2 nights)

Your first stop this morning is in the wine village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape where you stop to see the amazing vistas from the ruined fortress and visit one of the Côte du Rhône wine cellars to sample some of the delicious wine. You will discover that this wine has a very interesting Papal history which ties it to the city of Avignon which is your next stop. Here you will see the Papal Palace and famous ‘Pont’ (bridge) over the Rhône. Finally arrive in Nice where an orientation drive shows you the Promenade des Anglais and the Place Massena, before continuing on to your hotel.

Day 6

NICE - EXCURSION TO MONTE CARLO

A free morning to relax and take a stroll along the Promenade or shop in the trendy boutiques! Nice will delight you with its many delicious pastry shops and the temperate climate. Later this afternoon enjoy a scenic drive along the Côte d’Azur to visit Monaco and Monte Carlo. Here see the beautiful casino built by Charles Garnier in the 19th century and have free time to explore the Principality.

Day 7

NICE - CANNES - BARCELONA (2 nights)

A short drive to ‘la Croisette’ in glamorous Cannes where you have time to admire the yachts in the marina. See the Film Festival Centre before re-joining the highway to drive through Provençal landscapes reminiscent of Van Gogh paintings. Then on past the Camargue National Park to the border with Spain. Cross over the foothills of the Pyrénées and you are soon in the region of Spanish Catalonia. Continue past olive groves and vineyards before approaching the ‘avant-garde’ city of Barcelona – a cosmopolitan port on the Mediterranean.

Day 8

BARCELONA SIGHTSEEING AND AT LEISURE

Your morning sightseeing tour with an expert local guide takes you on a walk through the Gothic Quarter with its impressive Cathedral. See Gaudi's Sagrada Familia as well as many of his other eccentric architectural masterpieces. Later have free time to view the Columbus Monument and go exploring down the Ramblas. Perhaps take an optional excursion to mystical Montserrat to see the Black Madonna this afternoon. This evening join your Tour Director and fellow travellers for a Farewell Dinner with wine in a typical Spanish restaurant.

Day 9

DEPART BARCELONA

This morning after breakfast it is time to bid farewell to Barcelona as your tour of France and Spain comes to an end. Return transfers are available to the airport. Conditions apply. Otherwise consider taking the Madrid extension.

Dominated by the soaring Sacré Coeur Basilica with spectacular city views, all will be revealed by our local guide as you start with a train journey to explore this hill top village of narrow winding streets, unusual galleries, boutiques and the world famous Artists Square once home to Toulouse Lautrec, Picasso, and Utrillo's works.
